World Mentor

Mentoring talented Kiwi high school students
World Mentor New Zealand is an educational not-for-profit that connects Kiwi students with global business mentors in the NZ expat community.
New Zealand Program Mission
Our mission is to engage professionals to motivate, challenge and mentor on a large scale to allow protégés the opportunity to discover and explore their interests, heighten their level of awareness about higher education and career opportunity, connect them with industry to increase their awareness of the international elements of interests, and offer them the tools required for them to succeed in tomorrow’s virtual work environment.
About the New Zealand High School Program
Our core processes have been improved for more than a decade to create a rich legacy of proven success with mentors and protégés. World Mentor has adapted its methodology to serve people globally, starting with High School Students in New Zealand. We have successfully connected students with mentors in various fields to kick-start the potential of high school students at earlier stages in their young careers through our online e-Mentoring platform.
What does it take to become a mentor? Only about an hour a week of your time, for nine weeks, from your computer at any time that suits you - it's simple, and designed with busy professionals in mind. You will receive online training, and very brief, easy to read one-page weekly materials to discuss with your students. You will also have a chance to talk to like-minded experienced mentors, from the global World Mentor community

Our Methodology
Students work one-on-one with interested business professionals on selected projects for one semester with assigned weekly goals and long-term projects.
Projects are chosen for classroom or career projection relevance.
Mentors and protégés are paired using a specialized algorithm, matching common interests and goals.
Mentors engage their protégé weekly at their convenience through our innovative state-of-the-art web platform that safeguards students while facilitating intergenerational dialogue.
Business professionals give the protégés a view into the real world of careers.
Protégés are encouraged to recognize their own personal interests and passions to enable better education and career choices.
Teachers, along with the World Mentor staff, monitor the process to ensure participant satisfaction and safety.
World Mentor provides a well-defined framework for students to plan their education and careers, taking into account:
- Personal interests
- Personal strengths
- Habits needed to create a solid foundation
- Subject areas of importance to their professional interests
- Higher level competencies required for career success
